FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are answers to the questions we are hearing most often about our new practice.

Are you open to new patients with participating insurances?

Yes- All doctors are accepting newborns. Availability for new older children in the practice is limited.

What insurances do you participate with?

We participate with Aetna/ Cofinity, ASR, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, Cigna, Priority Health (including narrow network and the PH carried by Spectrum Health employees), Tricare and UHC. We participate with Medicaid, Priority Health Medicaid and McLaren Medicaid for our current families. We are currently not open to new families with any form of Medicaid. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

What are your office hours?

This web site is a great place to keep track of our hours.

Our phone hours will be 7 am – 5 pm Monday through Thursday and 7 am – 4:30 pm on Friday, with availability for evening hours Monday – Thursday, as well as Saturday and Sunday mornings for urgent visits (call to schedule.) 616-818-7454

What do we do if we have a concern after hours?

As before, we have an answering service and a doctor on call after hours. Just use our regular number, 616-818-7454, but you will be talking with our answering service, not our office staff. We ask that after-hours calls be limited to urgent needs that can't wait until the office opens in the morning. We will not call in prescriptions after hours, so make sure you give us a call 7-5 M-Thur, 7-4:30 Fri or Saturday and Sunday 7-9:30am so we can personally help you with what you need.

Will you have a patient portal?

We now have a patient portal, MyHealth.Spectrum.  You can use it on a computer.  You will be able to see your child’s medication list, immunization record and scheduled appointments.  You can also request an appointment, request a refill on a medication or send a message to your provider.  All you need to do is provide our office with an email address for us to send you the invitation to our portal.  Parents will have access to their children’s information until the age of 18 years and after that the patient will be invited to have access to their own portal account.

So if you are now a private practice, are you still affiliated with Spectrum Health?

We still use the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital ER, specialists, Spectrum's labs and Radiology just as we always have. The only difference is that our office is not technically a Spectrum facility – we are not owned by them. The majority of pediatricians in the area operate as we are now – independently but in collaboration with all the specialists and hospitals you use.
